The sixth annual Wine Tasting sponsored by Gasbarro Wines raised $45,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Approximately 400 people attended the event held at the Westin Providence.
As in previous years, 100 percent of the event’s proceeds go directly to the American Cancer Society. In the six-year history of the wine-tasting event, nearly $300,000 has been raised to benefit the society.
The event was created by Gasbarro Wines President Mark Gasbarro and his family to honor his late father, Lombard Gasbarro, who died in July 2002 of lung cancer.
“This is an event that is very important to me and my family,” said Mark Gasbarro, who in 2006 was honored with the Cancer Society’s Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Value Award. “It’s a salute to my father.
“And if, in the next 10 to 15 years, I can raise enough money to help find a cure for this disease so that another family does not have to go through this, it would be worth it,” he said.
“This event is growing tremendously every year. The interest and anticipation is amazing. It has truly become a premier tasting event.”
